Big events during August, 2022 include...

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - through August 21, 2022. Come to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy Shakespeare performances and other entertainment. These shows are held in what's been called America's most beautiful venue. Visit my article for details about tickets, seating, getting to Sand Harbor and other important information.

Classic Tahoe Festival - through August 18, 2022. Each summer, Classical Tahoe brings together America's leading classical musicians for a three-week festival of orchestra concerts on the campus of Sierra Nevada University in Incline Village, Nev. Individual and season tickets are available online.

Hot August Nights in Reno and Sparks - Tuesday through Sunday, August 2 - 7, 2022. There is so much happening I couldn't even begin to list it, so refer to the Hot August Nights event schedule to see what is going on when and where. The whole Hot August Nights website is excellent and can probably answer just about all of your questions.

Lazy 5 Summer Music Series - Wednesday, August 3, 2022 6:30 p.m. This series of free concerts includes food trucks available during each show. Bring blankets and low-back chairs to get comfortable on the lawn. The show this evening features Colin Ross. Additional shows are on August 10 and 17, 2022.

Discover Your Parks Walks - Thursday, August 4, 2022. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County from April through September, 2022. This first August walk will be at Pah Rah Park. Others will be on August 11, 18 and 25. Walks start at 6 p.m.

Galena Campfire Program Series - Friday, August 5, 2022, 7:30 p.m. This week's program is about bears, presented by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The programs are free, though donations are welcomed to support the program. S'more treats provided enjoy around the campfire at 8:00 p.m. Eagle Meadow, Galena Creek Regional Park, North Entrance, 18250 Mt. Rose Hwy., Reno.

Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series at the Brewery Arts Center - Saturday, August 6, 2022, 7 p.m. Featuring Bad Mother Nature. These are all free outdoor shows shows. The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open setting. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kid's activities at every concert. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets in Carson City. The next show is on August 13, featuring Canielle Nicole.

John Denver's Greatest Hits - Monday, August 8, 2022, 7:30 p.m. Vocalist Jim Curry joins the Reno Phil under the stars for an unforgettable performance of Denver's greatest hits. This concert of heartfelt tunes will take you back to a time of simple country pleasures. Concert is on the outdoor stage at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor Visit the website for ticket information.

"Into The Woods" at Bartley Ranch Regional Park - August 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 2022. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. Sierra School of Performing Arts, in association with Reno Little Theater, presents Into The Woods at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater, a wonderful venue to watch live theater under the stars on a warm summer night. Famous fairy tale characters from the Brothers Grimm step outside their traditional stories in this modern classic about wishes and their consequences. Tickets are available online.

Library Book Sale - August 13 - 21, 2022. Library book sales are in the mall space next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. Preview day for Friends of Washoe County Library members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. The sale is open to all every day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, August 13, 2022. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all, sponsored by the Estelle J. Kelsey Foundation. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 160 West Liberty in Reno.

Reno Aces Baseball - August 16 - 21, 2022. The Aces take on the Salt Lake Bees for this six game homestand. On August 30 - 31, it's home again against the Las Vegas Aviators.

Raise the River - Thursday, August 18, 2022, 4:30 p.m. You are invited to the annual Raise the River fundraising event for Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB). It will be in the Sensory Garden at Idlewild Park in Reno. The evening offers a sensory experience with local craft drinks and interactive sensory activities, along with a local-focused, sit-down dinner prepared by chef Mark Estee of Liberty Food and Wine Exchange. This is a 21+ event. Tickets and tables are available online.

Sparks Art Walk - Thursday, August 18, 2022, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Sparks Museum and Cultural Center, 39 North Downtown, and Sierra Arts Foundation, along with the City of Sparks, have created a downtown experience with art surrounding the Sparks Arts Walk: music, poetry reading, performances, art tours with food and kids activities. Every month, we invite you to come downtown to enjoy the museum, train and historical schoolhouse. Every month brings new items to explore.

36th Annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival - Friday through Sunday, August 19 - 21, 2022, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This year's festival includes a free Friday Night Show, Saturday Festival and free Sunday Morning Gospel Show. Camping available at nearby Davis Creek Regional Park. Tickets are available online. Bowers Mansion is at 4005 Bowers Mansion Road in Washoe Valley.

Northern Nevada International Dragon Boat Festival - Saturday, August 20, 2022. This event is free for spectators and will be at Sparks Marina Park. Fun for the entire family. The festival features all-day racing, local vendors, entertainment, Health and Wellness Village, Beer Garden, Food Truck Bazaar and more. It benefits Immunize Nevada. (775) 353-2376.

Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, August 20, 2022, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255).

Reno-Tahoe Senior Summer Games - August 22 through September 2, 2022. The Reno-Tahoe Senior Summer Games is a program of competitions styled after the real Olympic Games and designed for area citizens age 50 and above. The basic registration fee for all participants is $30. There is an additional fee for each sport. Get the details and links to registration at "2022 Reno-Tahoe Senior Summer Games."

Burning Man 2022 - Burning Man is back at Black Rock City and will play out from August 28 through September 5, 2022. The 2022 theme is "Waking Dreams."

Reno Aloha Festival - Saturday, August 20, 2022, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The annual Reno Aloha Festival is at Reno's Wingfield Park. This free event is a cultural showcase, preserving the unique traditions of the Hawaiian Islands. Experience the Pacific Islands in dance, music and food. Shop the various vendors selling Polynesian merchandise and let the kids enjoy Keiki Village for fun interactive activities such as arts/crafts, hula lessons and Island stories.

Nevada Humane Society Duck Race and Festival - Saturday, August 27, 2022, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Duck Race and Festival is a benefit event supporting the Nevada Humane Society (NHS) in Reno and Carson City. In addition to the duck race itself, other family-friendly things to enjoy include vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, games for the kids, pet adoptions, and more. Admission is free. At Wingfield Park in downtown Reno.

Nevada Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, August 27, 2022. The Wolf Pack opens its 2022 season with an away game at New Mexico State. The next weekend (September 3, 2022) features a home game at Mackay Stadium vs. Texas State.

Tahoe Brewfest - Saturday, August 27, 2022, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Tahoe Brewfest brings together the best craft brews from California and around the country. Paired with unbeatable mountain views, music, arts and mouth watering brew bites. It's a brew-lovers paradise. Lake Tahoe Community College, 1 College Dr., South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook Off - August 31 to September 5, 2022. 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. The Nugget Rib Cook-Off is really a cooking competition between the professional barbeque teams that will also be serving ribs and fixins to the public during the event. There are other things to see and do for all ages, including free entertainment, Crafter's Crossing, a big kids' area with rides and activities, and a Beer Garden. At Victorian Square in Sparks.
