Big events during December, 2020 include...

Northern Lights Festival - November 27 through December 31, 2020. This festival of lights features the north Tahoe communities of Incline Village and Crystal Bay. There will be many special activities at various venues during the festival, including holiday concerts, opening day at Diamond Peak ski resort, Tahoe Film Fest and lots more. Note that many activities are adults only. Check the website for a complete schedule of events.

Christmas on the Comstock - Starting on December 1, 2020. Update: Many of these events have been canceled. Go up to Virginia City for Christmas celebrations that include Candy Cane Express trains, photos with Father Christmas, the Cruise of Lights, A Comstock Christmas Carol at Piper's Opera House, The Grinch Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl, V&T Train O'Lights, holiday craft faire, holiday potluck, and more.

Tahoe Film Fest - Thursday through Sunday, December 3 - 6, 2020. Over 25 films will be shown at various venues around north Lake Tahoe and Truckee. See the full line-up of what is playing when and where at the Tahoe Film Fest schedule. You are encouraged to purchase tickets online, but box offices will be open. COVID-19 protocols will be observed. All proceeds benefit UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC).

Sparks Annual Hometowne Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting - Canceled.

The Nutcracker on Demand - December 1 - 31, 2020. Experience the magic of The Nutcracker Ballet in your own home, presented by A.V.A. Ballet Theatre with the Reno Philharmonic. The Nutcracker Ballet is a holiday tradition for all ages and this year, they will bring the magic to you. Stream and enjoy this encore performance all month long.

Spirit of the Season - Home for the Holidays - Saturday, December 5, 2020, 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 6, 2020, 2 p.m. $25 per household / viewing device. This is a livestream concert. Ring in the holidays and let conductor Jason Altieri, along with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, whisk you away to a winter wonderland for this year's Spirit of the Season. Even if we cannot celebrate together in person this year, the Reno Phil will still bring festive cheer by offering a special virtual concert experience celebrating being Home For the Holidays. Tickets are available online. Following these two performances, you can purchase an on-demand replay of the show for $30 that is good from 10 a.m. on December 7 through December 25, 2020. Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day - Monday, December 7, 2020. Each year on December 7, Pearl Harbor Survivors, veterans, and visitors from all over the world come together to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. On August 23, 1994, the United States Congress designated December 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble Zooming Through the Holidays Virtual Concert - Saturday and Sunday, December 12 - 13, 2020. The Tintab Chamber Ringers will be performing a live, interactive concert on the Tintabulations YouTube channel. Back for a second season, the Tintab Chamber Ringers are excited to bring you an energetic and skillful performance reminiscent of the full Tintab name. The concert is free with donations accepted. December 12 at 6 p.m. and December13 at 4 p.m.

Santa's Drive-Thru Village - December 11 - 13 and 18 - 24, 2020. There will be no Polar Express trains during the 2020 holiday season. Instead, come enjoy "Santa's Drive-Thru Village" and visit the North Pole as a 2020 replacement for the Polar Express. While staying in your car, drive through the North Pole at the Eastgate Depot and witness Santa, Mrs. Claus and dozens of elves busy at work before Christmas. Tickets are $20 per car and available online or by calling 877-724-5007. The Village will be open from 6 p.m. through 9 p.m. The Eastgate Depot is east of Carson City on Hwy. 50 at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road.

The Pioneer Center presents "Jagged Little Pill" - Sunday, December 13, 2020, 5 p.m. For one night only - and for the first time in nearly 10 months - the Broadway cast of JAGGED LITTLE PILL is reuniting for a live performance in New York City... streaming live from the stage straight into your living room. This concert event directly supports the most vulnerable venues experiencing catastrophic revenue loss during this time of suspension for live arts. Tickets are available online.

Free Art Activities for Kids - Through December 31, 2020. Arts for All Nevada has developed free hands-on Art Activities for kids who want to be creative at home. Each activity is designed to use easily obtained art materials, many of which you will find around the house. Send us a photo of your finished artwork - we would love to see what you are creating. You can send a photo to info@artsforallnevada.org. Presented by Arts for All Nevada at the Lake Mansion, 250 Court St. and Arlington Ave. in Reno.

39 North Pole Village Holiday Lights Festival - 39 North Pole Village is canceled for 2020. However, you can still take part in The Griswold Challenge, where local families and businesses compete in a light display contest inspired by Clark Griswold from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. This is a People's Choice contest, so people can view businesses and houses around Sparks to determine the winning displays. Registration deadline is December 10, 2020. Annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive - Friday, December 11, 2020, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. KTVN 2 News and other community sponsors will be collecting food donations at 3 different locations - Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Governor's Mansion in Carson City and Carson Valley Inn in Minden. You don't need to get out of your car - volunteers will be on hand to unload donations for you.

Magic of Santa Arts and Crafts Faire - Postponed.

Hands ON! At Home - Saturday, December 12, 2020. This Zoom program brings the Art Investigators program to you. Designed for families to enjoy together virtually, "Art Investigators" encourages inquiry and discussion about a selection of artworks on view at the Museum. Following an interactive discussion participants will be encouraged to create their own inspired masterpiece to share. Registration is free and only one registration per family is required. Please register online by 3 pm Friday, December 11. A Zoom link will be sent Friday evening.

Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, December 12, 2020. Join in on adventures that are out of this world. Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Reno Wind Symphony: A Holiday Celebration Virtual Concert - Saturday, December 12, 2020, 7:30 p.m. Please join us as we present The Holiday Celebration, which is one of the most crowd-pleasing events of our entire schedule, done virtually this year. The concert is free, with donations welcome to help cover technology costs.

High Noon with Neal Cobb: The Black Rock Desert - Thursday, December 17, 2020, 12 noon to 1 p.m. You've heard of the Black Rock Desert, but have you been there? Most impressions people have are from Burning Man, but there is so much more to this incredible place. Let's explore the northern end of Nevada with Jim Bonar. What's the history, who lived there, who were the first non-native settlers? See the wonders found in the majestic Black Rock Desert. This streaming presentation is free to attend, but you must register from the website.

We're sending our holiday spirit right down your virtual chimney and into your TV, computer or phone, as we try to make the end of the year just a little bit brighter. The performance is filmed in front of the 35-foot Christmas tree at Pink Martini's World Headquarters in Portland, includes Pink Martini fan favorites alongside holiday classics old and new. Online tickets start at $15 for individuals, $20 per household and $30 for both shows (second show is on December 31, 2020).

Reno Jazz Orchestra Virtual Holiday Variety Shows - Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 2 p.m. Enjoy these two shows being streamed live from the Good Luck Macbeth Theater in Reno. Admission is free with donations gladly accepted.

Jungle Jangle Jolly Joy Jam with Note-Able Music Therapy Services - Saturday, December 19, 2020, 3:30 p.m. Get ready to sing, dance, play, create, and connect with some of Reno's favorite musicians, the participants of Note-Able Music Therapy Services, and other surprise guests. This online broadcast will be an interactive crowd-pleaser for the whole family with a festive collection of celebration songs, activities and recipes. Your free registration enters you into a door prize raffle. Plus, you'll receive lyric sheets for singing along, plus coloring sheets and other activities for everyone at home.

Winter Break Camps and Activities - December 21, 2020 to January 1, 2021. Winter break activities for children and families around Reno and Sparks include camps and other things to do from several area organizations.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl - Tuesday, December 22, 2020. The Wolf Pack takes on the Tulane Green Wave in this bowl game played in Boise, ID. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m.

Christmas Day - Friday, December 25, 2020.

Christmas Tree Recycling - Saturday, December 26, 2020 through Sunday, January 10, 2021. This program is an excellent way to give your Christmas tree a new purpose while keeping it out of the landfill or letting it be illegally dumped on our public lands and open spaces.

Nevada Chamber Music Festival - Check the website to see if the Reno Chamber Orchestra manages to arrange an online presentation of this event. It will not be held as a live audience event.

New Year's Eve Parties - Thursday, December 31, 2020. Enjoy lots of parties and fireworks while bringing in 2021. There will be celebrations in Reno, Sparks, and up at Lake Tahoe.
