The Hawken Fire broke out on Monday, 7/16/07, right behind the Caughlin Ranch neighborhood in west Reno. It initially burned right up to the back fences of several homes, which were saved by quick work from several area fire agencies. By Tuesday morning, the flames were advancing up the mountainside into tall timber and away from the subdivision. These pictures were taken early afternoon as the fire blew up and made a major run. With air tankers and helicopters making repeated fire retardant and water drops, firefighters began advancing up the hill to try and get a handle on the blaze.
